The opioid epidemic has hit hard in the 6th District. Lane Siekman will push for real solutions and funding to fight this scourge on the ground where it matters.
Lane Believes in a multipronged, holistic approach which includes:
Accessible community based treatment programs with no questions asked entry.
Follow up support for as long as it takes to stay clean.
Early identification and interdiction of addiction.
Educating the public about the problem and improving access to naloxone.
Last but not least, creating good paying jobs with living wages to stop the cycle of recession and depression that is in part creating these problems.
Lane also supports the legalization of medical marijuana and current research appears to suggest that this could be an effective treatment tool. We can't afford to leave any potential solutions behind in this battle.
We must confront some of the deeper issues underlying drug use, including the fact that overdose deaths are more common among the underemployed and unemployed. We have to give people a reason to get better. Any long-term success will depend on our success in rebuilding the economy of the 6th District.
